On Thursday 7 May, we celebrated ‘Europe Day’ in the best possible way!

The concert began with a brief address by our Erasmus Coordinator, Sara Peral, introducing this now traditional event at our school, organised by the Erasmus Team in collaboration with the Activities Team.

In this brief opening address, Sara highlighted the importance of European values: freedom, democracy and solidarity – values that are particularly relevant at a time like the present – and pointed out that at the Vigo Conservatoire these values are not merely theoretical, but are actively put into practice through the Erasmus+ programme, fostering European citizenship by celebrating our shared heritage through artistic exchange.

Sara also emphasised that sustainability is a cornerstone of the Erasmus programme and a cross-cutting priority for our programme as well. That is why our collaboration with the EFCA (European Fisheries Control Agency) is so important; it is a key European institution in the preservation of the marine environment and sustainable fishing, and has such close ties to our city of Vigo.

Sara then handed over to Dr Susan Steele, Executive Director of the EFCA. Dr Steele was once again our guest of honour and joined us in celebrating the day, addressing the audience on the subject of cooperation between institutions and European values, thereby strengthening the ties forged between the EFCA and our centre since last year.

Following these speeches, the concert itself began, featuring a diverse line-up of musicians, including both students and staff, making this one of the most well-attended editions of this event to date.

We are very grateful for Dr Susan Steele’s visit and for her kindness, and we look forward to many more collaborations between our institutions, such as the one that took place today at the EFCA headquarters, about which you will be able to read more shortly on this very blog.

In addition, and of course, a very special thank you to all the participating students and staff, and to the audience.

Here are some photos of the concert!
