On Friday 8 May, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) marked the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the values that inspired the European project at the Museo del Mar. Teachers and students from our school took part in the celebrations as part of the activities under the Erasmus+ Programme 2025–2026.

The EFCA (European Fisheries Control Agency) ensures the sustainability of marine resources and the proper implementation of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy. Its mission is to promote the highest standards of control, inspection and surveillance in accordance with the Common Fisheries Policy.

On this occasion, and given the pro-European nature of this institution, the EFCA commemorated Europe Day and the 76th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the historic speech delivered on 9 May 1950 by the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, who proposed the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in what is considered the founding act of the European Union (EU), designed to make war between European countries ‘unthinkable and impossible’. This declaration marked the beginning of a new era of supranational cooperation, transforming the European continent through economic integration and Franco-German reconciliation.

The European values we are celebrating at this EFCA event – sustainability, the environment and the fight against climate change – are core values of the Erasmus+ Programme. That is why it was a source of great pride for our school that the EFCA included our students’ performances in such an important event, and we are very grateful to have been invited to take part.

All the participants thoroughly enjoyed the event and highlighted just how interesting and enriching it was, as well as the opportunity it provided to socialise with our friends from the EFCA.
