Joâo Pontes Araújo, Portuguese pianist specialised in chamber music, will be the guest expert for this academic year 2022-2023. He will give masterclasses in piano and chamber music from 11 to 13 April. The deadline for applications is Thursday 23 March 2023.
João Araújo is a Portuguese pianist who essentially dedicates his career to chamber music. He studied for a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Accompaniment at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was awarded a scholarship and graduated with distinction. There he studied with teachers such as Simon Lepper, Nigel Clayton and Roger Vignoles.
Previously, he completed a Piano Degree at ESMAE, Porto, studying under Madalena Soveral and a Master’s Degree in Music Teaching at the Universidade do Minho with Luís Pipa.
His recent activity as an accompanying pianist has led him to obtain important prizes such as the Best Collaborative Pianist Award at the Montreal International Music Competition (Canada, 2018), the Best Accompanying Pianist Award at the Maureen Vocal Awards at the Wigmore Hall in London Hall in London and a nomination for the Gerald Moore Award in the UK.
He has accompanied masterclasses by musicians such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Padcal Moraguès, Simon Keenlyside, Zuill Bailey, Edith Wiens, Johannes Goritzky, Graham Johnson, among many others.
Meanwhile, as a soloist, he has attended masterclasses with musicians of the stature of Boris Berezovsky, Roger Muraro and Josep Colom, Roger Muraro and Josep Colom.
In the orchestral field, João collaborated with several orchestras, especially in London, with composers such as Steve Reich and David Lang (premiere of his work Increase in the UK). UK). In 2016-17 he was selected for the BBC Symphony Orchestra Pathway Scheme.
João is currently an accompanying pianist at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, where he he accompanies singing, string and horn specialities. At the same time, he maintains a regular regular concert activity with musicians such as Julien Van Mellaerts, Virginia Lis, Carolina Rocamora, among many others. many others.
Each teacher will register the pupil or group of pupils at the time that suits them. The order of registration will be strictly respected.
The timetable for the masterclasses will be as follows:
TUESDAY: from 10:50 am to 1:40 pm and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
WEDNESDAY: From 10:50 am to 1:40 pm and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
THURSDAY: From 10:50 to 13:40 hours. At 18:30 there will be a closing recital by the Guest Expert and teachers from various specialties of the CMUS. In addition, diplomas will be awarded to the participants.
The masterclasses are free and exclusively for teachers and students of CMUS Professional Vigo. Access is free as a listener for all CMUS teachers and students.
